Celebrating the Returning Light at Dinefwr

We have been gathering around fires during the midwinter season here in Britain for over five thousand years - and for good reason: we need company and conviviality to keep us going through the darkest part of the year. So we thought we'd light a sacred fire and gather to it at beautiful Dinefwr in the heart of west Wales. There will be fire and good company, soft candlelight, poetry, myths, legends and music to celebrate our old traditions and the beauty of our wild Earth.

Each year, at Gŵyl y Golau ~ Imbolc, join Angharad, eco violinist and composer Simmy Singh and friends for a gloriously restorative midwinter weekend of traditional stories, music, song and ceremony to celebrate the darkness of midwinter and the returning light.

Both of us travel extensively with our work throughout the year, so it's wonderful to gather our local community around the fire for this seasonal festival as we begin to emerge from midwinter. ~ Simmy

We are grateful to the team at National Trust Dinefwr for their partnership and ongoing support of this event.

What Participants Say

"The quality of the story telling and the music was just superb. For me it was an exquisite experience both evenings that really nourished my soul and my connection to nature and to each other. My heart was full."

Mandy

"Such a beautiful location and ambience to the place made it feel very magical. Simmy's Music was incredible and combined with short stories from Angharad, with fire too it is just such a wonderful combination. Loved it!"
